Why a thousand

In the last post I said the plan is 1,000. People keep asking if that is realistic. Wrong question.

The number is not a target. It is a forcing function. A thousand is large enough that talent cannot carry it and small enough that consistency can. You do not write a thousand good essays. You write a thousand essays, and somewhere in the doing, the good ones start happening to you.

Nils Frahm takes one small phrase and repeats it for eight minutes. Nothing about bar four tells you it will become a cathedral by bar two hundred. The accumulation is the composition. The repetition is not in service of the thing; the repetition is the thing.

That is the whole bet of Pangaea. Not that any single post matters, but that a thousand of them, stacked, become a shape I could not have designed up front. A worldview you can only get to by walking, not by planning.

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.
